FDA Approves Jaypirca for Mantle Cell Lymphoma Treatment on January 20, 2023

Jul 23, 2024

What is Jaypirca prescribed for?

Jaypirca is prescribed to treat relapsed or refractory mantle cell lymphoma in adults who have had at least two lines of systemic therapy, including a BTK inhibitor

What is the name of the drug and what does it do?

The name of the drug is Jaypirca, pronounced JAY-PIHR-KAA, (generic name: pirtobrutinib). It is a prescription medication approved for the treatment of mantle cell lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, in adults who have received at least two prior therapies.

How does it work?

Jaypirca works by inhibiting Bruton’s tyrosine kinase (BTK), an enzyme that plays a critical role in the growth and survival of B-cells, which are a type of white blood cell.

By blocking BTK, Jaypirca helps to stop the growth and spread of cancerous B-cells in mantle cell lymphoma.

What did the research discover?

Clinical trials demonstrated that Jaypirca is effective in treating mantle cell lymphoma in patients who have already received multiple therapies.

In the studies, a significant number of patients experienced a reduction in tumor size or complete remission.

These results indicate that Jaypirca can provide a valuable treatment option for patients with this challenging form of lymphoma.
